Appearance, themes and voice

Light, Dark, and System (which follows your device) are always available. Beyond those are distinct light palettes (Sage, Apricot, Ocean) and dark ones (Espresso, Midnight, Forest, Plum), plus Build your own. The brand dot stays red across every theme.

The extra palettes and the custom builder unlock as you complete your setup steps, the more of your workspace you have set up, the more themes open up. Until then you can pick from the ones already unlocked.

Once unlocked, Build your own lets you pick three colours (background, text, accent) and Compass derives a coherent palette from them, so the whole app still hangs together.

Your theme is saved to your account and follows you across devices, applying instantly with no flash of the wrong colour on load. A device you haven't signed in on before picks it up the first time the app loads.

System follows your device's light or dark setting and switches automatically when your device does.

The same page lets you choose how Compass talks to you in small moments: the little confirmations after a save, an undo notice when something moves to the Trash, the occasional apology when a save fails. The standard Compass voice is calm and clear. Three more are there for fun: Ultra-optimistic, Sarcastic, and Unhinged.

Like themes, the extra voices unlock as you complete your setup steps. Each card shows a sample line so you can hear a voice before picking it. Whatever you choose, the facts never change: every message still tells you exactly what happened and what to do next, and your clients never see any of it. The voice is for you, not your emails.
